Nothing handles like a 911. The first time you drive one, a little light goes on in your head and you instantly get why everyone raves about them. The steering, is sharp, accurate and feeds back so much information, the driver can feel exactly what’s happening where the wheels meet the road. The Carrera 4’s four-wheel-drive system adds even more grip and traction, so you always look forward to the opportunity to take some corners at speed on a twisting B-road, confident in the knowledge that the electronics will take up the slack if you run out of talent. Of course, the ride in the 911 is going to be firm, but it’s perfectly judged, lacking any harshness or tendency to crashiness. The absence of a roof is naturally going to have an effect on the rigidity of the chassis compared to the coupe version, but Porsche’s engineers have managed to reduce any shuddering and scuttle shake to an absolute minimum, so you only feel it when going over the worst potholed surfaces.

As you’d expect from a car that costs north of 80 grand, the build quality of the 911 Cabrio is superb. The exterior feels sturdy and well-engineered, the bodywork and uniform panel gaps combining with the squat stockiness of the classic 911 shape to create a sense of robust quality. This continues in the cabin, the leather and high-quality materials used in the interior exuding the luxury feel you’d expect of a car in this price range. The attention to detail is almost faultless, down to the optional Porsche crests embossed on the head restraints (which will set you back an extra £135). Porsche doesn’t sell enough cars in the UK to appear in customer satisfaction surveys, but in the US the brand came out top in JD Power’s most recent Vehicle Dependability Study, scoring five stars in the fields of Initial Quality Rating and the Predicted Reliability Rating. As all 911s come from the same German production lines, there’s no reason why cars here are any different.

Named after the 7200km intercontinental rally which the Cayenne won in 2007, the Porsche Cayenne S Transsyberia Special Edition offers a number of enhancements to entice those unsuspecting punters in. Its team of engineers crafted a new power kit that increases the flat-six engine’s output by 90HP and 120Nm for a total of 620-horsepower and 820Nm (604.8 lb-ft) of peak torque. The boost is achieved through a reprogrammed ECU, a free-flow air filter, a new manifold and a sport exhaust system.

According to TechArt, acceleration from zero to 100km/h (62mph) is trimmed from Porsche’s 3.3 second claim for the stock 911 Turbo S to 2.9 seconds on the tuned version. It can also get to 200km/h (124 mph) in just 9.3 seconds (down from 10.8) and ultimately reach a top speed of 333km/h (207mph), up from the standard model’s 315km/h (195mph).

The 2010 Porsche 911 lineup gains updated track-ready GT3 and GT3 RS as well as a new Turbo variant. The 911 roster consists of rear-wheel-drive Carrera and Carrera S, plus all-wheel-drive Carrera 4, Carrera 4S, Targa 4, and Targa 4S. Carreras come as coupes and as Cabriolet convertibles with a power soft top and heated-glass rear window.

The Targa 4 and 4S are coupes with a 4.8-square-foot power-sliding roof panel made of translucent glass. The GT3 is a coupe only. Porsche’s flagship 911 Turbo comes as a coupe or convertible, and for 2010, it receives a new engine. All 911s have rear-mounted, horizontally opposed 6-cylinder engines, sized at 3.6 or 3.8 liters. Carrera and Targa 4 versions reprise a 3.6-liter engine with 345 horsepower. Carrera S and Targa 4S versions use the 3.8, which has 385 horsepower. The 911 GT3 and GT3 RS have a 3.8-liter 6-cylinder engine with 435 and 450 horsepower, respectively. The 911 Turbo has a new 500-horsepower 3.8-liter turbocharged motor. A 6-speed manual transmission is standard. All but the GT3 are available with a 7-speed dual-clutch automated manual that behaves much like an automatic. Available safety features include ABS, traction control, antiskid system, and front-side airbags. 911 also has an airbag that deploys from the seat back. The Turbo, GT3, and GT3 RS have specific suspension tuning, brakes, and styling. A navigation system is optional.

The German tuners from Techart have developed a new package for Porsche 911 Turbo, this time targeting the Turbo S version of the iconic athlete from Stuttgart. The engineers team from Techart succeed to squeeze 90 HP and 89 lb-ft of torque by the six-cylinder boxer engine of the 911 Turbo S. The end result is a model which can accelerate from 0-60 mph in just 2.9 seconds, while the standard version performs the same acceleration in 3.3 seconds. The acceleration time from 0-124 mph was reduced from 10.8 seconds for the standard version to 9.3 seconds for the Techart version.

The maximum speed of 911 Turbo S in Techart version is 207 mph, with 11 mph higher than the standard version of this model. How did the guys from Techart to obtaining these values from a Porsche 911 Turbo S? The Germans fitted a sports exhaust, new intake, a sports air filter and a reprogrammed ECU unit. The end result is a Porsche 911 Turbo S that provides 620 HP and 605 lb-ft. The maximum torque is offered between 3,500 and 5,000 rpm, while the maximum power is supplied at 6,500 rpm.

The Panamera Turbo Powerkit features two new turbochargers with titanium aluminum turbines and an ECU management that increases output by 40-hp for the Panamera Turbo (standard model gets 500-hp). Torque is increased to 533 lb-ft but if in Sport Plus mode, which is included in the Sport Chrono Turbo Package that is part of the Panamera Turbo Powerkit, torque is increased to 589 lb-ft. Esattamente 7 minuti, 27 secondi e 56 centesimi: questo è il nuovo tempo impiegato da una Nissan GT-R model year 2010 per percorrere un intero giro del leggendario vecchio Nurburgring. Con al volante il funambolico test driver Toshio Suzuki la Casa giapponese ha dunque mantenuto le promesse fatte agli appassionati circa un anno fa quando, con un tempo di 7′29″ i tecnici Nissan erano già certi di poter ulteriormente migliorare un risultato già al tempo eccezionale.

La vettura – strettamente di serie ad esclusione dei cerchi, sostituiti con dei Rays forgiati – tornerà comunque presto in pista dove l’attendono altri e numerosi test: l’obiettivo di Mr. Suzuki è infatti quello di battere il muro del 7′25″ anche se, osservando le supercar che fino ad oggi sono state capaci di arrivare a tanto, l’obiettivo non sembra così semplice da raggiungere, almeno senza scomodare la più estrema sorella SpecV. Meglio della GT-R, infatti, hanno già fatto diverse sportive attualmente in produzione, come ad esempio la Pagani Zonda F o la più “normale” Corvette ZR1, riuscita a compiere un giro di Inferno Verde in soli 7′26″4.

UK based tuning company Merdad have announced plans for a conversion kit for the Porsche Cayenne Turbo, and the kit in question converts the four-door SUV into a two-door “coupe”. Amazing, it’s looks more like a three-door super sized supermini. The rear section is by pushing the front seats forward, as in coupes.

Merdad add include nostril-vents on the bonnet, an aggressive grille, a revised front apron and new side skirts along with huge blacked out wheels. Under that bonnet lies a 4.8-litre V8 engine that has been modified by the tuners to produce 740 bhp. This is a phenomenal 247 bhp increase from the standard engine output, but then again tuners are only after a headline power figure with little regards to fuel consumption and emissions, unlike Porsche.

The latest innovation of the Porsche Tuner speedART from Rutesheim near Stuttgart is called speedHYBRID 450 which is based on the new Porsche Cayenne S Hybrid.

Performance:

speedART offers for the V6 compressor engine a power enhancement with additional 70 HP, so that the system effort (petrol engine with electric motor) rises up to 450 HP and 570 NM. Regarding the performance, the effort of the speedHYBRID 450 is much better than the one of the Cayenne S. The speed-up decreases from 6.5 Sec. down to 6.0 Sec. and the maximum speed rises up to 252 Km/h. This means a plus of 10 Km/h compared to the original Cayenne S Hybrid and a plus of 22 Km/h compared to the usual V6.

The electric mode stays unaffected by the power enhancement. The speedHYBRID can be driven in the Zero-Emission-Mode as economical and as efficient as the original Cayenne Hybrid. Of course the function of the Sport- and the E-Power-Button stays the same, only that, when needed 70 hp more power for a sporty drive are available.

Sound:

speedART offers for the Hybrid a sport exhaust with sound switch and 2×100 mm tail pipes. This highlights the sportive sound of the V6-compressor and the power enhancement gets also acoustically underlined. The sport exhaust system with sound switch can be ordered for all Cayenne models with petrol engine. A sport exhaust system for the Diesel is also availiable.
